Joydeep Biswas is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Texas at Austin's Computer Science Department. Previously, he was an Assistant Professor at the University of Massachusetts Amherst (2015–2019) and a post-doctoral fellow at Carnegie Mellon University (2015). He holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in Robotics from Carnegie Mellon University (2014, 2010) and a B.Tech. in Engineering Physics from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (2008).
His research focuses on autonomous mobile robotics, emphasizing perception (dynamic world modeling), planning (motion planning, multi-robot coordination), and control for service robots and robot soccer. His work has garnered media attention, and he has contributed to the RoboCup Small Size League and Symposium committees.
Key achievements include the 2015 Siebel Scholarship. He leads the Autonomous Mobile Robotics Laboratory (AMRL), advancing self-sufficient robots for human environments.
