Joyce Rubenstein

Joyce Rubenstein is a Professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Long Island University (LIU), Post campus, and serves as the Clinic Director of the Ladge Speech and Hearing Center. She is dually certified as a speech-language pathologist and audiologist and plays a central role in clinical education and operations, supervising graduate students and providing services to children and adults with communication and swallowing disorders.

Her research and clinical interests focus on adult rehabilitation, particularly neurogenic communication disorders and the psychological adjustment to disability. She emphasizes counseling and clinical supervision, contributing significantly to evidence-based practice in speech-language pathology and audiology.

The two most recent publications reflect a long-standing interest in the relationship between self-concept and esophageal speech following total laryngectomy, highlighting interdisciplinary work at the intersection of communication sciences, psychology, and oncology rehabilitation.

Dr. Rubenstein actively contributes to professional development through lectures and presentations at NYSSLHA, LISHA, and the Metropolitan Council of University Clinic Directors. She has held leadership roles in several organizations, including President of the Metropolitan New York Council of University Clinic Directors since 2011.

She is involved in clinical operations, student supervision, and professional service, indicating a strong commitment to both education and community engagement in the field of communication disorders.
