Joy Farrall

Joy Farrall is a Senior Tutor in Wind, Brass and Percussion Chamber Music at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where she has been a Professor since 1985. She also serves as Head of Woodwind at the Purcell School for Young Musicians. Her roles combine academic leadership, teaching, and performance.

As a performer, Farrall is Principal Clarinet of the Britten Sinfonia and a founder member of the Haffner Wind Ensemble. She has freelanced with major UK orchestras and performed globally in chamber music settings. Notable recordings include works by Mozart, Strauss, and Italian Bel Canto composers for labels like EMI and Chandos.

Her research and teaching focus on chamber music performance, woodwind pedagogy, and orchestral ensemble techniques. She has received prestigious awards, including Fellowships from the Higher Education Academy (2014) and the Guildhall School (2016).

Farrall’s contributions to music education emphasize collaborative performance and instrumental excellence. She leads the Wind, Brass, and Percussion department at Guildhall, fostering interdisciplinary training for emerging musicians.
