Queen’s University BelfastAbout
Dr. Josy Augustine is a Research Fellow at the Wellcome Wolfson Institute for Experimental Medicine within Queen's University Belfast's School of Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Sciences. She holds an Associate Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA) and teaches courses in MB Medicine, MSc Experimental Medicine, and BSc Biomedical Science programs.
Research Focus: Her work examines mRNA localization mechanisms in retinal vascular diseases and evaluates novel therapeutics for retinal neurodegeneration using in vivo/in vitro models. Current investigations target mRNA mislocalization as therapeutic strategy for pathological angiogenesis.
Publication Trends: Recent articles (2021-2024) predominantly address diabetic retinopathy mechanisms, neurovascular protection strategies, and molecular protocols for retinal studies, using rodent models and biochemical analyses.
- Notable Awards:
- MRC Early Career Fellowship (2025)
- ARVO Science Communication Fellowship (2024)
- EMBO Scientific Exchange Grant (2022)
Supervises PhD/Master's/undergraduate students and collaborates with retinal research teams investigating inflammation pathways.
