Joshua Thomas

Joshua Thomas serves as an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Music at Connecticut College (since 2013) and Eastern Connecticut State University, while maintaining an active performance career as a concert saxophonist with the United States Coast Guard Band since 2000.

His educational credentials include:

• M.A. in Music Theory from Connecticut College
• M.M. from Louisiana State University
• B.M. from Michigan State University
• D.M.A. (c) from the Hartt School of Music

Specializing in saxophone performance across diverse settings—from concert halls to bandstands—Dr. Thomas champions contemporary music through commissions and premieres of new works. His international performance record spans the North American Saxophone Alliance conferences, Navy Band Saxophone Symposium, Midwest Clinic, and solo appearances with wind ensembles at institutions including University of Georgia and Western Connecticut State. He tailors music education to individual student goals, whether for majors or lifelong enrichment.

His honors include:

As an educator, Dr. Thomas mentors saxophone and chamber music students at Connecticut College and Eastern Connecticut State University, previously teaching at Central Connecticut State University and the Hartt School. His active commissioning projects and performance schedule reflect sustained artistic support. He also serves as Membership Director for the North American Saxophone Alliance.

Dr. Thomas performs globally with the Coast Guard Band as a featured soloist, chamber musician, and ensemble member, including national ceremonies and international tours such as a saxophone quartet residency in Taiwan.
