Joshua R. Hendrickson

Dr. Joshua R. Hendrickson is an Associate Professor of Economics and Chair of the Department of Economics at the University of Mississippi (College of Liberal Arts). His research focuses on monetary theory, political economy, and the history of economic thought, with particular emphasis on cryptocurrency (notably Bitcoin), nominal GDP targeting, and policy frameworks. He holds affiliations with the American Institute for Economic Research’s Sound Money Project, the Mercatus Center, and the Bitcoin Policy Institute.

Education: Ph.D. in Economics from Wayne State University (2010). He teaches courses ranging from introductory economics to advanced topics like Monetary Theory (Econ 619) and Economic Growth and Development (Econ 422). His work spans scholarly journals such as Journal of Money, Credit and Banking and Journal of Economic Dynamics and Control.

Hendrickson’s research explores intersections between monetary policy and political economy, including historical analyses of the gold standard, modern digital currencies, and the implications of fiscal-monetary coordination. His recent work critiques traditional Quantity Theory assumptions and advocates for nominal income targeting as a policy framework.

He also serves on the Mississippi Council on Economic Education board and contributes to public discourse via platforms like his Economic Forces Newsletter.
