Joshua M. Rea

Dr. Joshua M. Rea is an Assistant Professor of English at Millersville University, specializing in rhetoric of space and place, civic communication, and digital rhetorics. He previously directed First Year Composition and the Writing in Multiple Media program at LSU Shreveport. His research explores urban spaces like Youngstown, OH, Tampa, FL, and Louisiana, with a digital project analyzing Reddit as a scientific discourse platform.

Education: Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition (University of South Florida), M.A. in English (University of Louisville), B.A. in Writing (University of Mount Union).

Research interests include urban rhetoric, digital communication, and the intersection of civic engagement with physical/digital spaces. His work analyzes how structural racism and historical narratives shape urban landscapes. Current projects expand into Louisiana and Reddit’s role in scientific discourse.

Notable awards include the Outstanding Graduate Student and Outstanding Doctoral Candidate honors from the University of South Florida.

Teaching experience includes courses at Millersville and LSU Shreveport such as Technical Writing, Business Writing, and Composition Theory. He has also contributed to grant-funded projects in mental health literacy and participatory design methodologies.
