Joshua J Mason

Joshua J Mason is a Lecturer and Ph.D. candidate in Sociology at the University of California, Davis, within the College of Letters and Science. His research and teaching focus on the intersection of medical sociology, health policy, and cultural sociology.

His research agenda centers on the sociology of psychedelic-assisted therapy, examining how social and cultural structures in medicine and science shape therapeutic outcomes. He investigates the medicalization of transcendental experiences, practitioner approaches to psychedelic therapy, and the impact of cultural identities on patient-therapist relationships.

Scientific awards include the UC Davis Sociology Graduate Program Fellowship 2024 ($25,000). He served as Sociology Representative (2018-2021) and Legislative Director (2020-2021) for the UCD Graduate Student Association.
