Joshua Garroway

Rabbi Joshua D. Garroway, Ph.D., is the Sol and Arlene Bronstein Professor of Judaeo-Christian Studies and Professor of Early Christianity and Second Commonwealth at Hebrew Union College’s Skirball Campus in Los Angeles. He serves in multiple academic units:

• Louchheim School for Judaic Studies
• Rabbinical School (US)
• Zelikow School of Jewish Nonprofit Management

He earned his rabbinical ordination at Hebrew Union College (2003) and a doctorate in Religious Studies at Yale University (2008).

His research focuses on:

• Origins of Christianity and its separation from Judaism
• Ambiguous Jewish identities in ancient and modern contexts
• Greco-Roman diaspora studies
• Historical Jesus/Paul scholarship
• Jewish messianism through the ages
• Exegetical midrashim and scriptural polemics
