Joshua C. Drake

Joshua C. Drake, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Human Nutrition, Foods, and Exercise at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. His research focuses on molecular mechanisms of cellular energetics, particularly how these processes change with aging and contribute to age-related diseases like diabetes and Alzheimer’s. He holds a PhD in Human Bioenergetics from Colorado State University (2014) and prior degrees from West Virginia University. His work has been funded by notable grants including NIH/NIA awards and the SJ Ritchey Research Grant. Key contributions include studies on AMPK signaling, mitochondrial quality control, and the interplay between skeletal muscle and brain health in aging.
