Josh Shepperd is an Associate Professor and Associate Chair of Undergraduate Studies in the Department of Media Studies at the University of Colorado Boulder. He serves as faculty advisor for KVCU Student Radio and is a Senior Faculty Research Advisor for the National Recording Preservation Foundation.
- Research Focus: Institutional, political, and conceptual history of the mediated public sphere in the U.S., with emphasis on public broadcasting, radio preservation, and communication policy.
- Key Projects: Director of the Library of Congress’s Radio Preservation Task Force and Sound Submissions Project, and co-authoring the official History of Public Broadcasting for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) and Current.
- Editorial Contributions: Founding Associate Editor of Resonance: The Journal of Sound and Culture (University of California Press).

- 2024 BEA Book Award for Shadow of the New Deal: The Victory of Public Broadcasting.
- Runner-up/finalist for AJHA Book Award, AEJMC History Book Award, and New Deal Book Award.
Applied Policy Leadership: Designs and directs initiatives for the Library of Congress National Recording Preservation Board and Recorded Sound Section, including the Radio Preservation Task Force and Sound Submissions Project.
