Levine’s research focuses on contemporary music composition, electroacoustic music, and the intersection of performance and technology. He has created works for prominent ensembles like the JACK Quartet and Ensemble Intercontemporain, blending innovative techniques with acoustic and electronic mediums. His compositions emphasize nuanced instrumental interactions and spatial soundscapes, often challenging performers to engage in unconventional techniques.

Levine’s music is celebrated for its emotional depth and technical precision, described as 'arresting' and 'eerily delicate' by critics.
As a performer and advocate for new music, Levine has collaborated with Ensemble Contrechamps, Nouvel Ensemble Contemporain, and others. His recordings appear on labels like Innova and harmonia mundi. Beyond academia, he has led residencies at festivals such as June in Buffalo and soundSCAPE, fostering emerging composers worldwide.
