About
Dr. Josh Giles is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Victoria. He holds a PhD from Western University and is a licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng). His research integrates biomechanics and engineering to develop solutions for orthopaedic medicine.
Research focuses on two complementary areas:
- Biomechanical experimentation using hybrid cadaveric-robotic systems and computational modeling (Finite Element Analysis, Statistical Shape Modelling) to study musculoskeletal function
- Development of clinically applied systems for surgical planning, clinician training, and patient assessment through biomechanics-technology integration
He directs research at the Biomechanics and Instrumentation Laboratory (BaIL) and collaborates with the Orthopaedic Technologies & Biomechanics Lab. Dr. Giles seeks undergraduate co-op/summer students, graduate researchers, and Globalink interns with backgrounds in biomechanics, FEA, biomedical device design, or mechatronics.
