About
Dr. Josh Bonesso is a Research Associate at the University of Western Australia's Oceans Institute, specializing in marine geoscience with a focus on coral reef resilience under climate change. His transdisciplinary research combines coral reef ecology, sedimentology, and remote sensing to assess historical island development and future resilience of tropical coral reef-island systems.
Research interests span:
- Coral forestation and restoration potential
- Sediment-nutrient dynamics of oceanic atolls
- Environmental DNA (eDNA) detection of marine fauna
- Reef island stability under changing environmental conditions
His publications demonstrate a consistent focus on reef system responses to environmental change, particularly examining sediment budgets and carbonate systems under climate stress. Recent work shows increasing attention to quantitative assessment methods for reef stability.
Awards recognize excellence in marine research, including finalist for Premier's Science Award and multiple society grants. Current projects involve field studies across NW Australia and the Great Barrier Reef.
