Dr. Joseph Stone is Associate Professor of Skill Acquisition and Performance Analysis at Sheffield Hallam University's School of Sport and Physical Activity. He holds a BSc and MSc in Sport and Exercise Science from Sheffield Hallam University and a PhD in 'Emergent coordination patterns in interceptive actions' from the same institution. His research employs ecological dynamics to examine sport and exercise, particularly focusing on 'big data' in performance analysis and constraints-based coaching.
Dr. Stone leads research on Parkour-style training applications to team sports and serves as Postgraduate Research Tutor in Sport and Physical Activity. His work contributed to a REF Impact case study on 'Improving Elite Coaching and Talent Development through Ecological Dynamics'. He teaches across undergraduate and postgraduate programs including Sport and Exercise Analysis and Skill Acquisition modules.
Current research projects include:

- Hybrid-electric propulsion for sustainable aviation
- Skill acquisition in virtual reality environments
He supervises multiple PhD students investigating topics from rugby pedagogy to coach wellbeing.
