Joseph Socki is a Lecturer in the Department of Art History, Theory, and Criticism at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), where he has taught since 2000. He holds a BA in Art History from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (1984), an MA in Art History from Northern Illinois University (1988), and a PhD in History of Art and Architecture from Binghamton University (1994).
His research explores the intersection of spatial design, visual culture, and societal contexts, with emphases on:
- Prairie School architecture and Frank Lloyd Wright's modernism
- Furniture as cultural artifact across historical periods
- Public art as urban narrative
- Industrialization's impact on design evolution
