Joseph S. Alter

Joseph S. Alter is a Professor of Anthropology and Director of the Asian Studies Center at the University of Pittsburgh. He specializes in global connectivity, infrastructure development, and cultural/economic impacts of transnational projects.

His recent collaborative work includes co-editing the volume Connecting China, Latin America, and the Caribbean: Infrastructure and Everyday Life, which examines China's expanding investments in the region through case studies of infrastructure projects like dams, energy grids, and security systems.

Research interests focus on cross-cultural interactions, globalization, and the sociopolitical dimensions of international economic development.
