Joseph Ronan

Joseph Ronan is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Humanities and Social Science at the University of Brighton. His research focuses on queer theory, LGBT+ literatures, and cultural production, with an emphasis on identity narratives, childhood/adolescence studies, and intersections between literature, performance, and pop culture. He supervises PhD students in LGBTQ+ literature, queer theory, children’s literature, and related interdisciplinary topics.

Key research interests include bisexuality theory, camp aesthetics, queer temporalities, and kinship dynamics in children’s fiction. Recent work examines Neil Bartlett’s queer spaces and textual strategies in subcultural identity practices. Collaborations include editing Neil Bartlett: Invitations to Speculate (2025).

Publications span peer-reviewed articles and edited volumes, exploring themes like queer archive practices, intergenerational narratives, and performance art’s role in social change. His scholarship bridges literary analysis with cultural critique, emphasizing dialogic approaches to theorizing identity.
