About
Dr Joseph Mallalieu is a Research Fellow at the University of Birmingham's School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences. He holds a PhD from the University of Leeds and degrees from Aberystwyth University. His research focuses on glacier and ice-sheet dynamics, particularly the impacts of climate change, volcanic activity, and ice-marginal lakes. Methodological expertise includes remote sensing, GIS, photogrammetry, and statistical analysis.
Research interests emphasize Arctic glaciation, volcanic-glacier interactions, and the integration of advanced imaging techniques. Recent work explores precursory glacier acceleration before volcanic eruptions and the role of proglacial lakes in Greenland Ice Sheet recession.
Publications span glaciological dynamics, volcanic influences, and numerical modeling of ice-lake interactions. He collaborates internationally, appearing as lead and contributing author on studies published in Journal of Glaciology, Communications Earth & Environment, and Geophysical Research Letters.
