Joseph Mallalieu

Dr Joseph Mallalieu is a Research Fellow at the University of Birmingham's School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences. He holds a PhD from the University of Leeds and degrees from Aberystwyth University. His research focuses on glacier and ice-sheet dynamics, particularly the impacts of climate change, volcanic activity, and ice-marginal lakes. Methodological expertise includes remote sensing, GIS, photogrammetry, and statistical analysis.

Research interests emphasize Arctic glaciation, volcanic-glacier interactions, and the integration of advanced imaging techniques. Recent work explores precursory glacier acceleration before volcanic eruptions and the role of proglacial lakes in Greenland Ice Sheet recession.
