Joseph M. Knippenberg

Joseph M. Knippenberg is a Professor of Politics and Politics Program Coordinator at Oglethorpe University. He holds a B.A. from James Madison College of Michigan State University and an M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Toronto. His research focuses on the history of political philosophy, religion's intersection with politics, and contemporary liberal theory.

Dr. Knippenberg delivered a notable lecture titled "Liberal Education in the Political Arena" in 2016 as part of the university’s "Great Books and Good Books" series. This lecture critiqued political discourse on higher education by analyzing works by Adam Smith, Aristotle, and Alexis de Tocqueville.

He has received the 2024 Core Teaching Award, underscoring his contributions to academic instruction. His teaching and research emphasize bridging classical political thought with modern societal challenges.
