Joseph J. Helble

Joseph J. Helble is the 15th President of Lehigh University, where he is affiliated with the College of Engineering and Department of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering. He is an expert in environmental impacts of fossil fuel use, air pollution, and carbon capture technologies.

His research focuses on:

• Air pollution treatment and prevention
• Combustion-derived pollution
• Nanoscale ceramics and powder production
• Climate change mitigation through carbon capture

Helble has received prestigious awards including:

• Fellow, AAAS (2017)
• National Academy of Engineering’s Gordon Prize (2014)
• NSF CAREER Award (1998)
• AAAS Roger Revelle Fellowship (2004-05)

Prior to his presidency, he held leadership roles at Dartmouth College and the University of Connecticut, where he served as professor and chair of chemical engineering.
