Dr. Joseph Hashem is an Assistant Professor in the College of Business at Western Carolina University, affiliated with the School of Accounting, Finance, Information Systems, and Business Law. He joined WCU in Fall 2023 after completing his PhD at Kent State University and prior industry/public accounting experience. He teaches courses such as Cost Accounting, Advanced Accounting Theory, and Accounting Data Analytics. His research focuses on financial reporting determinants, audit quality, crypto-asset accounting challenges, and the impact of emerging information sources on firm valuation.
