Joseph Bergman

Joseph Bergman serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor and currently holds the position of Chief of Surgery at Sturgeon Hospital. His academic training includes medical school at the University of Calgary and orthopedic residency at the University of Alberta.

His clinical expertise centers on shoulder and upper limb surgery, with specialized focus on both soft tissue repairs and complex reconstructive procedures of the shoulder. Research interests span biomechanics studies, surgical technique innovation, and rehabilitation protocol development for shoulder, elbow, and wrist conditions. Prior to medicine, he practiced as a mechanical engineer with advanced biomechanical engineering training and operated a biomechanical engineering consulting firm.

Dr. Bergman maintains active involvement in sports medicine as former Medical Director of the Tour of Alberta professional UCI cycling race and continues personal engagement in cycling.
