Joseph A. Maldjian

Joseph A. Maldjian, MD is a Professor of Radiology at UT Southwestern, where he serves as Vice Chair of Faculty Affairs and Director of the Advanced NeuroScience Imaging Research (ANSIR) Lab. His career spans leadership roles at Wake Forest University School of Medicine, the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, and New Jersey Medical School. Dr. Maldjian’s clinical focus lies in integrating novel neuroimaging techniques into clinical practice, particularly arterial spin-labeling (ASL), functional MRI (fMRI), and magnetoencephalography (MEG).

Recent publications highlight his work on IDH mutation classification via MRI, ASL reproducibility, and MEG-fMRI integration for traumatic brain injury.

His scientific awards include the 2017 Academy for Radiology & Biomedical Imaging Research Distinguished Investigator Award and 2019 Inaugural Fellow of the American Society of Functional Neuroradiology. He is a founding member of the Texas Society of Neuroradiology (2024) and actively contributes to NIH study sections and editorial boards of journals like Radiology and NeuroImage. Dr. Maldjian’s lab (ANSIR) specializes in large-scale neuroimaging data processing and multi-modal analysis of brain tumors and traumatic injuries.
