Josep Maria Puigoriol Forcada

Josep Maria Puigoriol Forcada is an Associate Professor in the Department of Industrial Engineering at IQS School of Engineering, Universitat Ramon Llull. He has been a faculty member since 2001, progressing through the ranks from Lecturer to Assistant Professor and currently holds the position of Associate Professor since 2022.

His educational background includes a PhD from IQS-URL (2013) and a BSc and MEng in Industrial Engineering – Structural Mechanics from ETSEIB-UPC (1995). Prior to academia, he worked as a simulation and structural analysis engineer at Faurecia Interior Systems (1999–2012).

His research focuses on structural integrity, mechanical characterization of materials, additive manufacturing (especially Fused Deposition Modeling), intelligent materials, multicriteria analysis, and structural optimization. He is a member of the GEPI (Industrial Products Engineering Group), which specializes in additive manufacturing, reverse engineering, and material characterization.

His recent publications (2020–2024) highlight work on 3D-printed polymers, including polyetherimide and polycarbonate, examining creep, fatigue, tensile modulus estimation, and crash box design optimization. These works are published in journals such as Polymers, Acta Mechanica Sinica, and Structural and Multidisciplinary Optimization, showing a strong trend in experimental mechanics and computational modeling of advanced materials.

He has served in leadership roles including Coordinator of the Master in Industrial Engineering (2016–2019), SEAT-IQS Laboratory Manager (2016–2018), and LEPI Laboratory Manager (2014–2016). He teaches in programs such as the Master’s Degree in Materials Science and Engineering.

His research projects include BioCrash (2023–2024), GEPI group activities (2022–2025), and internal studies on polycarbonate fatigue and creep behavior. He collaborates with researchers such as A. A. García-Granada, G. Reyes, and J. Menacho.
