Jose Rodriguez

Jose Rodriguez is an Associate Professor in Environmental Engineering at the University of Newcastle, Australia. His research focuses on fluvial hydraulics, eco-geomorphology, and the adaptation of riverine and coastal wetlands to climate change and anthropogenic pressures. He developed innovative modeling frameworks for simulating interactions between landforms, vegetation, and hydrology in estuarine environments, with work published in high-impact journals including Nature Communications.

His research examines sediment dynamics, floodplain inundation patterns, and vegetation responses in critical ecosystems like the Macquarie Marshes and Hunter Estuary. Field and modeling studies address challenges in wetland restoration, water resource management, and climate adaptation strategies.

Rodriguez received the Stout Water Resources Research Award and leads international collaborations on ecohydraulics. He serves as Associate Editor for the ASCE Journal of Hydraulic Engineering and chaired the IAHR Fluvial Hydraulics Committee (2016-2018).
