Jose A. Rey, Pharm.D., BCPP, is a Professor of Pharmacy Practice and Chair of the Department of Pharmacy Practice at the Barry and Judy Silverman College of Pharmacy, Nova Southeastern University (NSU) in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He serves as the clinical psychopharmacologist for South Florida State Hospital and directs NSU's ASHP-Accredited PGY-2 Residency in Psychiatric Pharmacy Practice.
Dr. Rey earned his Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) from the University of Florida in 1991, completed an ASHP-accredited psychiatric pharmacy residency at Gainesville VAMC and Shands Hospital, and holds board certification in psychiatric pharmacy (BCPP).
His research encompasses:
- Cosmetic neuropsychopharmacology
- Geropsychiatry and psychotropic polypharmacy
- Pain management using antidepressants/anticonvulsants
- Clinical and pharmacoeconomic outcomes of antipsychotics/antidepressants
- Communication disorders
He actively contributes to professional societies including the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists and the College of Psychiatric and Neurologic Pharmacists. Previously, he served on the Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties Specialty Council for Psychiatric Pharmacy.
