About
Jorge Moreno is an Associate Professor of Physics and Astronomy at Pomona College since 2017, conducting research in galaxy formation, stellar dynamics, and computational astrophysics. His work combines observational analysis with cosmological simulations like FIRE and TNG50, focusing on galaxy interactions, dark matter distribution, and star formation processes. He is based in the Estella Laboratory (Office 1297) and can be reached at jorge.moreno@pomona.edu.
Research interests include:
- Galaxy formation and evolution mechanisms
- Starburst triggers in merging systems
- Dark matter halo interactions
- Stellar kinematics and velocity dispersion
- Computational methods for galaxy simulations
- Environmental effects on low-mass galaxies
Recent publications analyze galaxy morphology in FIREbox simulations, stellar halos, AGN feedback effects, and UV luminosity at cosmic dawn. His work bridges numerical simulations with observational constraints, particularly through synthetic imaging techniques like RealSim.
