About
Joonmo Son is Associate Professor of Sociology at NUS, specializing in social capital and volunteerism. His research examines how formal/informal social engagement affects health outcomes in aging populations and the relationship between religious participation and civic behavior. Son leads studies on volunteer satisfaction during the COVID-19 pandemic and serves as President of ISA Research Committee on Social Indicators.
He teaches social networks, health sociology, and social statistics, receiving NUS Teaching Excellence Awards seven times. Current projects investigate the bidirectional relationships between social engagement and cognitive/physical health in elderly populations across Asia. Son co-edits Current Sociology and Asian Journal of Social Science.
