About
Professor Jonathan Wright is a Professor of Building Optimization at Loughborough University, leading the Building Energy Research Group. His research focuses on optimizing building systems, particularly HVAC configurations, fabric construction, and control strategies to minimize energy use and enhance sustainability. Funded projects include ASHRAE-supported work on HVAC system synthesis and EPSRC-funded research on multi-criterion building design optimization.
Key research areas include model-based fault detection, commissioning of HVAC systems, and uncertainty analysis in building performance prediction. He has pioneered the use of genetic algorithms and evolutionary optimization for solving complex building design problems. Current projects address stakeholder preferences in Passivhaus design, large-scale retrofit programs, and trade-off analysis in multi-dwelling refurbishment.
His work bridges theoretical optimization techniques with practical building applications, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to energy efficiency and sustainable construction. Over 40 years of publications span HVAC system optimization, building energy modeling, and algorithm development for constrained design problems.
