Jonathan Wilansky

Jonathan Wilansky is a Research Fellow at the Loyola Sustainability Research Centre and a PhD student in the Department of Geography, Planning and Environment at Concordia University. His research focuses on mitigating wildlife-vehicle collisions (WVCs) and habitat fragmentation through wildlife exclusion fences and crossing structures.

Wildlife fencing reduces road mortality but can cause fence-end effects, shifting collisions toward fence ends. Jonathan developed an individual-based model to study these dynamics and optimize fence-passage configurations. His work emphasizes improving understanding of animal-fence interactions and adopting predictive approaches to reduce reliance on post-mitigation studies.

His research contributes to biodiversity conservation and human safety, with applications for species-specific parameterization and mathematical modeling of fence effectiveness.
