Jonathan Valabhji

Professor Jonathan Valabhji is affiliated with Imperial College London through the Faculty of Medicine and the Department of Metabolism, Digestion and Reproduction. With over three decades of experience in diabetes research, clinical practice, and national leadership, he focuses on the intersection of diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular disease.

• Education: Graduated from St Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical College (1990), trained in diabetes/endocrinology in North-West London, and earned an MD as a British Heart Foundation Junior Research Fellow (1997).

His research spans epidemiology, public health, and clinical trials, particularly on diabetes complications, the impact of pandemics on diabetes care, and obesity interventions. Recent work includes evaluating SGLT2 inhibitors, digital diabetes prevention programs, and bariatric surgery outcomes.

Key trends in his 2025–2024 publications include diabetic foot ulcer management, post-COVID-19 diabetes, and health data equity. His scientific contributions were recognized with an OBE for services to diabetes research and healthcare policy.
