Dr. Jonathan Terdiman is a Professor of Clinical Medicine and Surgery and Chief of the Gastroenterology Division at UCSF Health. He specializes in gastroenterology, with a focus on inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) management and cancer risk mitigation. He earned his MD from Columbia University (1989), followed by residency and fellowships in internal medicine, critical care, and gastroenterology at UCSF. His research emphasizes cancer risk in high-risk populations, IBD therapies, and clinical decision support.
Dr. Terdiman has received numerous awards, including the UCSF Academy of Medical Educators (2005), Champion of Hope (2012), and the White Helmet Award (2022) for cancer prevention work. He actively contributes to clinical guidelines for IBD and colorectal cancer screening. He chairs the Brandeis School of San Francisco board and previously served on the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation board.
His research spans guideline development, fecal microbiota transplantation for IBD, and Lynch syndrome screening. Over 200 publications reflect his work in gastroenterology, oncology, and public health.
