About
Dr. Jonathan Stevens is an Associate Professor of Physical Chemistry at the University of Detroit Mercy, affiliated with the College of Engineering & Science and the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department. His research focuses on quantum-mechanical molecular orbital calculations for atmospheric reaction mechanisms. He teaches courses in physical chemistry, freshman chemistry, and chemistry for non-science majors. Contact: stevenje@udmercy.edu at McNichols Campus, Chemistry Building Rm 105.
Education:
- Ph.D., Chemistry, University of Chicago
- B.S., Chemistry & Mathematics, Miami University (of Ohio)
Research Interests: Dr. Stevens uses molecular orbital theory to investigate reaction mechanisms, particularly in atmospheric chemistry. His work emphasizes computational modeling to study pollutants and reaction pathways, bridging theoretical predictions with real-world environmental impacts.
Publications: His research spans computational chemistry applications in education and industry, with recent work on hydrofluoroether spectra and radical dynamics in materials. Earlier studies include atmospheric degradation of organic compounds and reaction kinetics with halogens and OH radicals.
