Jonathan Proctor

Jonathan Proctor is an Assistant Professor in Food and Resource Economics at the University of British Columbia (UBC). He holds a PhD in Agriculture and Resource Economics from UC Berkeley (2019) and was previously a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard's Data Science Initiative and Center for the Environment. His research focuses on environmental and socio-economic systems, leveraging remote sensing, machine learning, and climate science to assess anthropogenic impacts on agriculture and human systems. He leads the Environmental Economics and Data Science Lab, which develops tools to measure socio-environmental outcomes via satellite imagery and evaluates policy implications of climate change. Current projects include global climate migration patterns, crop resilience to climate extremes, and high-resolution Human Development Index estimates using satellite data.

Education: PhD in Agriculture and Resource Economics, UC Berkeley (2019); Postdoctoral training at Harvard (2019–2021). His teaching includes a spatial data analysis course (FRE_V 490) at UBC.
