Jonathan Pritchard is a Professor of Astrostatistics at Imperial College London's Department of Physics, part of the Faculty of Natural Sciences. His academic journey includes a Natural Sciences degree from the University of Cambridge and a PhD in Physics from the California Institute of Technology. He has held roles from Lecturer (2011) to Reader (2018) and currently serves as a Professor since 2024. His research focuses on the early universe, particularly the cosmic dawn and epoch of reionization, utilizing the 21cm line of hydrogen observed via telescopes like LOFAR and the Square Kilometer Array (SKA).
Education includes a PhD (Caltech, 2007), MSci and BA (Cambridge, 2002), and postgraduate teaching certifications from Imperial College (2013-2014). He has been a Hubble Fellow (2007-2010) and holds multiple teaching awards, including the 2017 Fowler Award for early career achievement in astronomy.
Research interests span cosmological 21cm signal analysis, radio astronomy, and the interplay between astrophysics and cosmology during the universe's first billion years. He leads projects like the ERC-funded FIRSTDAWN and chairs the UK SKA Science Committee. His work combines theoretical models with observational data from cutting-edge radio telescopes to explore the formation of the first stars and galaxies.
Key achievements include over 60 refereed publications, leadership in international collaborations (e.g., HERA, SKA-EoR), and mentorship of numerous PhD students and postdocs. His lab focuses on developing statistical methods and machine learning tools to analyze 21cm signals and probe reionization dynamics.
