Jonathan Mathews

Dr. Jonathan Mathews is a Professor of Energy and Mineral Engineering at Pennsylvania State University, specializing in coal science, molecular modeling, and CO₂ sequestration. He focuses on the relationship between coal structure and behavior, utilizing atomistic representations and advanced analytical techniques in collaborations across China, South Africa, and Australia.

His research spans coalbed methane, carbon products from coal, porosity modeling, and combustion reactivity, with tools like HRTEM, X-ray CT, and ReaxFF simulations. Recent work includes biochar modeling and kerogen analysis.
