Jonathan Keeble

Jonathan Keeble is a Professor of Flute and Chair of Woodwinds, Brass and Percussion at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, housed within the College of Fine and Applied Arts. He holds a BMA from Northwestern University and advanced degrees (MM, DMA, and Performer's Certificate) from the Eastman School of Music. Keeble is a distinguished performer and pedagogue, renowned for his rich tonal palette and advocacy of new music. He serves as Principal Flute of Sinfonia da Camera and has performed with major orchestras like the Chicago Symphony. His recordings include Voyage, Song of the Black Swan, and icarus, praised for virtuosic execution and artistic depth.

As an educator, he leads the Illinois Flute Studio, emphasizing ensemble participation and pedagogy. His teaching philosophy prioritizes mentorship, with students securing roles in orchestras and academia globally. Keeble’s awards reflect his impact: the 2016 Campus Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Instruction and 2017 College of Fine and Applied Arts Teaching Award. He also served as Past President of the National Flute Association and received its 2023 Distinguished Service Award.

Internationally active, Keeble tours and teaches across Mexico, Australia, Brazil, Europe, and Asia. He participates in summer programs like Aria International and the University of Illinois Summer Youth Music Pre-College Flute Seminar. His collaborations include the Aletheia Duo and Prairie Winds, celebrated for ensemble cohesion and artistic innovation. Keeble’s work bridges performance, education, and advocacy, solidifying his legacy in contemporary flute artistry.
