Jonathan James is Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in Economics at the University of Bath, specializing in applied microeconomics with policy focus. He joined Bath in 2012 after a Max Weber Fellowship at the European University Institute and PhD completion at University of Essex.
Research examines health economics, education policy, labor markets, and field experiments. Current projects investigate school absences and working-from-home impacts. His work appears in leading journals including Journal of Health Economics and European Economic Review.
Recent articles analyze Friday effects on school attendance, dietary interventions for low-income families, and alcohol pricing impacts on road safety. He directs postgraduate research studies and leads the Labour, Education and Health Economics research group.
Awards include multiple University of Bath Excellence Awards and ESRC funding. He actively contributes to policy debates through media engagement on education and public health economics.
