About
Professor Jonathan Heddle holds the Chair in Biological Nanomaterials at Durham University's Department of Biosciences, where he leads the Centre for Programmable Biological Matter supported by a Leverhulme Trust International Professorship. His research bridges natural biological nanomachines and artificial nanostructures using protein, DNA, and lipid components.
Education: DSc. (Polish Academy of Sciences), Ph.D. in Biochemistry (University of Leicester), B.Pharm (University of Nottingham)
Research integrates biochemical, biophysical and structural approaches to study enzyme complexes like DNA gyrase while developing artificial structures including DNA nanorobots and protein cages. Current projects focus on dynamic protein nanotubes, enzyme encapsulation, and viral-templated nanomaterials. He founded nCage Therapeutics to develop protein-based therapeutics.
