Jonathan Gilmore is a Lecturer in International Relations at the University of Manchester. He holds a PhD and MA in International Relations from the University of Manchester and a BA in Political Studies from the University of Leeds.
Dr. Gilmore's research centers on global ethics, critical security studies, and normative international relations theory. His work examines how cosmopolitan commitments to human security and the Responsibility to Protect (R2P) doctrine translate into national military practices. Current investigations focus on reconceptualizing statehood and developing progressive internationalism frameworks amid emerging 'post-liberal' world orders.
His publications frequently address themes of civilian protection mechanisms, ethical dimensions of foreign policy, and cosmopolitan approaches to security challenges.
Dr. Gilmore teaches courses on United States Foreign Policy and Critical Military Studies, and supervises PhD projects related to applied cosmopolitanism, human security, and the politics of international protection.
