Jonathan E. Oliver

Jonathan E. Oliver is an Associate Professor in Plant Pathology at the University of Georgia's College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. His research focuses on pathogen biology and disease management in fruit crops such as blueberries, blackberries, satsumas, olives, pomegranates, and mayhaws. Key areas include genetic diversity of pathogens, pathogen-vector-host interactions, and novel control strategies. He holds a Ph.D. from Cornell University (2011) and a B.S. from the University of Florida (2005).

Oliver has secured grants for projects like assessing copper fungicides for blueberry diseases and evaluating citrus disease risks. He co-authored the award-winning UGA Bulletin 1504 on low-volume irrigation systems, earning the Blue Ribbon Extension Communication Award. His advising includes student Will Hemphill, who received multiple graduate awards.

His lab is involved in precision agriculture and robotic systems for disease management. Research outputs span fungal genetics, bacterial pathogens like Xylella fastidiosa, and transgenic resistance to viruses.
