About
Jonathan Burrows is an Associate Professor at Coventry University's Research Centre for Dance Research. A renowned choreographer, he collaborates with composer Matteo Fargion globally and authored the best-selling A Choreographer's Handbook (Routledge, 2010). His research explores cross-disciplinary connections between action, perception, and choreography as felt-sense, challenging traditional structural approaches.
Research interests include contemporary dance practice, performance studies, and the enactive approach to cognition through movement. He supervises doctoral candidates in dance and performance studies, including Alethia Antonia and Etienne Guilloteau. Current projects involve investigating choreography's role in understanding brain processes (project: Almost Feeling It).
External roles include serving as an external examiner and assessor for doctoral programs at De Montfort University and Norwegian institutions. His work bridges artistic practice with academic research, emphasizing non-linear and embodied knowledge-generation.
