Jonathan Bunt is an Honorary Senior Lecturer in Japanese Studies at the University of Manchester. He has been teaching Japanese language and culture since 1997, covering translation, grammar, reading, and Japanese cinema and society (JAPA12222). He also teaches Japanese and Czechoslovak New Wave Cinema on the Introduction to World Cinema course and tutors on the MA in Translation Studies.
His research focuses on Japanese language pedagogy, with particular interests in dictionaries, reference grammars, virtual learning environments, and peer partnerships. He has collaborated with colleagues at Kobe University and Hamburg University on translation projects using e-portfolios, supported by Toshiba International Foundation grants. His work extends to Japanese film, television drama, and cultural context in language translation.
