Jonathan Bouw

Jonathan Bouw serves as Department Co-Chair and Professor of Art in the Art, Film & Media Department at Taylor University, where he has taught since 2007 after previously teaching at Northwest Nazarene University from 1997-2007. Born and raised in the Philippines, he brings multicultural influences to his academic and professional work.

Bouw's research and professional interests focus on illustration, drawing, graphic design, art history, painting, and typography. His work blends artistic practice with faith, as he describes Taylor University as 'a place where genuine faith mixes passionately with professional art practice.' With over 30 years of professional experience, his artistic style reflects his Filipino heritage and cultural background.

Bouw's publications demonstrate a strong focus on children's literature and illustration, with recent works including 'I Love You From Here to Heaven Above' (2023) and 'I Love You to the Sun and Beyond' (2022). His book 'Lantaka' (2021) draws directly from his Filipino heritage, depicting life on the island of Mindanao.

His personal interests include indie & world music, monster movies, woodworking, hiking, camping, swimming, rollercoasters, Scripture, and climbing trees.
