Jonathan Beecher Field

Jonathan Beecher Field is an Associate Professor of English at Clemson University's College of Arts and Humanities. His research focuses on Early American Literature, Settler Colonialism, and Infrastructure, with a particular emphasis on the intersection of dissent, power, and transatlantic discourse. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago (2004), an M.A. from the same institution (1993), and a B.A. from Washington University (1991).

• Awards: Walter Muir Whitehill Prize, Clemson Creativity Professorship.

His work analyzes how dissenting voices in New England engaged with metropolitan power structures, shaping colonial identity and autonomy. Current projects explore the material bases of settler innocence.
