About
Jonathan Abraham, M.D., Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Microbiology at Harvard Medical School. He leads a research laboratory located in the New Research Building where his team investigates host-pathogen interactions using structural biology, immunology, and molecular virology approaches. Their work focuses on hemorrhagic fever viruses (arenaviruses, filoviruses), arboviruses, and emerging pathogens to develop therapeutic strategies.
Research interests center on:
- Molecular mechanisms of viral entry through cellular receptors
- Structural basis of antibody neutralization and immune evasion
- Viral polymerase function and antiviral resistance
- Pathogenesis of encephalitic viruses and hemorrhagic fever agents
Publication analysis reveals consistent focus on viral glycoprotein structures, receptor switching mechanisms, and antibody-virus interactions. Recent work includes significant contributions to SARS-CoV-2 research, particularly on antibody evasion and inflammasome activation in monocytes.
