About
Dr Jonathan A. Foster is a Senior Lecturer in Inorganic Chemistry and Schools PostGraduate Research Programme Lead at the University of Sheffield's School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences. He holds a PhD from Durham University and completed postdoctoral research at the University of Cambridge under Professors Jonathan Nitschke and Anthony Cheetham. His research focuses on supramolecular chemistry and nanomaterials, particularly the development of metal-organic nanosheets (MONs) for applications in optoelectronics, drug delivery, and chemical sensing. Foster has pioneered scalable synthesis methods for 2D materials and their integration into solar cells and catalytic systems.
His academic career includes fellowships from the Ramsay Foundation and the University of Sheffield. Teaching responsibilities include inorganic chemistry tutorials and supervision of Level 4 research projects. The Foster Group collaborates internationally on projects spanning organic/inorganic synthesis, material characterization via diffraction/spectroscopy, and industrial partnerships for sensor and membrane technologies. Key achievements include over 30 peer-reviewed publications and innovations in MOF-based nanomaterials.
