Jonas Schmid is a PostDoc researcher at the Institute of Political Science, University of Bern, affiliated with the Chair of Comparative Politics in the SWEET-EDGE project. He previously served as an Assistant and PhD candidate at the Chair of Swiss Politics (2018–2023). His work focuses on renewable energy policy, particularly wind energy permitting, administrative federalism, and digitalization of political institutions in Switzerland.
Education includes a Master's in Comparative International Studies from ETH Zurich and the University of Zurich (2013–2015), and a BA in International Affairs from the Universities of Geneva and Bern (2008–2012). His research explores topics such as federalism's impact on energy policy implementation, subsidy effectiveness for renewable energy, and practical federalism in administrative practice.
Recent publications analyze Swiss wind energy authorization procedures, biomass deployment policies, and the challenges of energy federalism. His conference presentations address energy transition dynamics in decentralized systems and the role of cantonal policies. Teaching includes seminars on renewable energy social acceptance and digitalization of political institutions, with a focus on methodological training for political science students.
Collaborations include projects on municipal energy management (Seecon GmbH), SBB strategy development, and cybersecurity research with ETH Zurich. His work bridges theoretical political science with practical policy analysis, emphasizing the interplay between institutional frameworks and real-world governance challenges.
