About
Jonas Folesky is a researcher at the Institute of Geological Sciences within Freie Universität Berlin, specializing in seismology and geophysics. His work focuses on earthquake source processes, regional seismology in the Chilean subduction zone, and induced seismicity.
His current project, "Slip pattern of a subduction zone, derived from a detailed analysis of recurring earthquakes. 15 years of observations from northern Chile," investigates repeating earthquakes to understand their recurrence patterns, integrating plate convergence rates and GPS-derived locking maps. He also applies machine learning techniques to seismology for tasks like waveform denoising and earthquake detection.
Dr. Folesky actively supervises bachelor’s and master’s theses in geosciences and teaches "EPiG" (Introduction to Python Programming for Geoscience Students).
